Since the opening of The Dance Attic in 1988, all dancers from The Dance Attic have been pushed with technical rigor, while growing in a nurturing, inclusive, creative space. Creating and fostering this holistic environment for dancers of all ages and levels stands at the core of our dance studio. The Dance Attic is also an active part of the Wake Forest community through outreach and performance opportunities. When you ask those involved with TDA what their favorite thing about the studio is, many will answer “The Family Atmosphere.”
How did it begin?
The Dance Attic first opened its doors in 1988 in the actual “attic” of an insurance company on Main Street in Rolesville, NC. Founded by Ms. Wanda Lynam Percise, The Dance Attic quickly became a beloved space for dance education and community. Ms. Wanda owned, operated, and directed the studio for 37 incredible years, shaping generations of dancers with her passion and dedication. By 2000, The Dance Attic had outgrown its original attic space and relocated to its current home in the Friendship Center on South Main Street in Wake Forest, NC. Over the years, TDA expanded to include five studio spaces, two dressing rooms, two offices, and two lobbies. Now entering its 38th season, The Dance Attic begins an exciting new chapter as Hallie Hoy Pardo steps into the role of studio director. A former student, longtime teacher, and now studio director, Hallie is proud to continue Ms. Wanda’s legacy while leading TDA into a future full of growth, opportunity, and heart.

At The Dance Attic, we offer two dynamic programs designed to support dancers at every level: our Recreational Program and our Competitive Team. Our Recreational Program is perfect for dancers who want to enjoy training and performing without the full commitment of a competitive season. These dancers participate in weekly classes, perform in our end of year recital, and attend one local competition, a unique opportunity that sets our program apart. For those seeking a more intensive experience, our Competitive Team is designed for dancers who commit to five or more hours of weekly training in company rehearsals in addition to required recreational classes. A key strength of our program is the collaboration between the two tracks. All company dancers take recreational classes as part of their technical foundation, and all recreational dancers gain valuable performance experience by attending one local competition each season. This shared experience fosters community, growth, and a strong studio-wide connection.
Where can you see The Dance Attic Perform? All dancers at The Dance Attic are involved in our end of season performance in June. Our recitals are open to the public and we love celebrating all of the dancers hard work in this culmination of performances. All of our dancers enrolled in our “Combo” Classes as well as our advanced hour long classes will participate in one local competition a year. The Dance Attic staff is proud that our entire staff and all of the dancers at the age to be in competitive classes, represent themselves well, and that we exceed the expectations of a recreational program going to a competition, competing against other Competitive teams and studios.
Looking to further your dance education? If your dancer is looking for more commitment and challenge in their dance experience, our competitive team (TDAC) was created in 2005 to allow for dancers to expand on their dance education. The Dance Attic Company travels to multiple competitions throughout the season and has more requirements than our recreational program. CLICK HERE for more information on our competitive team.
Both our recreational as well as our competitive programs have grown immensely throughout the years, and we are happy to be dancing with a family with over 240 dancers!
