Master Class – emily- 10/19

The Dance Attic is pleased to welcome  Emily Wayne to teach a Contemporary master class on Saturday, October 19.   Emily started dancing at the age of 2 wanting to follow in the footsteps of her own mother. Growing up in North Myrtle Beach, SC she was able to train with many dancers who came through town.  Her main training came from her mother’s studio.  Emily has also trained with the Joffrey ballet as well as SC’s Governor School. In 2012 Emily became a national title holder, America’s Miss Dance which expanded her interests into the pageant world.  Emily is trained in all 3 ballet methods Balanchine, Cecchetti, and Vaganova.  She grew up in the competition world winning a lot of first place awards as well as choreography awards.   The cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door if space is available.  The class schedule is as follows:

Master Class – kai- 10/6

The Dance Attic is pleased to welcome Kai Hinkey to teach a Ballet master class on Saturday, October 6th.

Originally from Philadelphia, Kai is a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Rowan University with a BA in Speech/Theater/Dance. Kai was an adjunct professor of dance education at Rowan University, implemented dance programs for the public school systems with New Jersery School of the Arts and Rowan University, and taught ballet at the Gloucester County Ballet School. In 1998, Kai moved to Denver where she danced for the Hannah Kahn Dance Company and the Off-Center Dance Collective. She continued to teach for state arts programs in Colorado and for several dance/theater studios. For the past ten years, Kai has continued to teach and to perform in San Jose and Raleigh winning numerous awards for her choreography as well as high scores at regional and national dance competitions.

The cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door if space is available.  The class schedule is as follows:

Master Class – Ryan- 9/21

The Dance Attic is pleased to welcome Ryan McMullen to teach a Hip Hop master class on Saturday, September 21st. Ryan is the Director of Dance at Louisburg College, and the Artistic Director of Louisburg Dance Company. He received his B.A. in Dance from Slippery Rock University where he was awarded: The Excellence in Performance Award and The Excellence in Choreography Award. Ryan received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Performance and Choreography from Florida State University, where he was a three-time recipient of the Provost Men’s Performance Scholarship. Ryan’s work has been presented at Koresh Dance Company’s Come Together Festival, Slippery Rock Universityand many others

Master Class – Kennedy- 9/7

The Dance Attic is pleased to welcome Kennedy Hill to teach a Hip Hop master class on Saturday, September 7th. Kennedy began her training at Katura Dance Academy in Greenville, North Carolina. She is a recent graduate of East Carolina University’s School of Theatre and Dance where she received her BFA in Dance Education. Kennedy has trained in ballet, jazz, and modern & enjoys teaching hip-hop, contemporary and conditioning.  Kennedy has completed summer training at Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles, California and the Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive in New York City. She has had the opportunity to perform in major cities such as Atlanta and Chicago but most importantly enjoys working and serving her community to create learning experiences through the art of dance.

The cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door if space is available.  The class schedule is as follows:

Master Class -Rachel- 7/20

Lyrical with Rachel Gentry—July 20th.

Rachel Gentry is a Wake Forest native and began her dance education at the Dance Attic.  In May 2009 she graduated from Elon University with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography.  While at Elon, Rachel was a member of the Elon Dance Company and had the privilege of performing works of several applauded choreographers.  Rachel was the assistant director of the internationally renowned North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of tap master Gene Medler.   She is married to Jonathan Gentry they have a baby boy James.  The cost for the class is $10 in advance and $15 at the the door and the schedule is as follows:

Master Class-Alumni led-8/3

Alumni-3 Class Workshop-August 3rd

The Dance Attic is pleased to welcome alumni to teach a 3 class workshop on Saturday, August 3rd.   Abby Telenko will teach Contemporary, Kenard Williams will teach Tap, and Rachel Bohannon will teach Musical Theater.  This class will count as 2 master classes for TDAC and the cost is $20.  See summer newsletter for instructor bios and pictures.  The class schedule is as follows:

All dancers come from 9:00 am-11:15 am and they will rotate through the 3 classes.

Master Class -Danielle – 8/10

Ballet with Danielle Lang —
August 10th

Danielle began dancing at Lehman’s studio at age 11 and became a member of the company Ballet Lehman USA.  With that company she had the opportunity to perform the Nutcracker as well as compete in Sochi, Russia. Danielle attended Virginia Commonwealth University on scholarship for dance and choreography where she had the opportunity to work with numerous dance professionals from all over the world.  She has performed pieces such as Jose Limon’s Choreographic Offering at the Kennedy Center and BET”s 2009 Spring Bling.  Danielle has worked with shows such as The Lion King, Burn the Floor, Shrek the Musical and other on and off Broadway shows.  She likes to take classes in NYC to keep her dance styles updated.  The cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door.  The class will follow this schedule:

Master Class -Rachel- 8/24

Contemporary with Rachel Bohannon—August 24th

Rachel Bohannon danced competitively at the Dance Attic for 15 years before moving on to pursue a degree in Dance Studies at Appalachian State University.  She has won numerous awards for her routines including highest score of the day.  She is a board member for the dance crew Entropy at ASU and has choreographed for both Entropy and Momentum dance club as well as the Appalachian Dance Ensemble main stage show.  She has also performed in both the Fall and Spring Appalachian Dance Ensembles. She is looking forward to sharing her passion for dance with the Dance Attic.  The cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door.  The schedule for the class is as follows:

2019 Scholarship Winners

Each year the Dance Attic staff chooses dancers to receive a scholarship award.  This award goes to dancers who work hard and always have a positive attitude.  They are also respectful and encouraging to others.  The scholarship award winners receive half price tuition for the year and a solo to perform at competition and recital.  The Dance Attic would like to congratulate this year’s award winners, KZ Koffa, Macy Lowery, and Heather Hoy.  All are amazing dancers as well as good role models for all our younger dancers.  We are looking forward to seeing them learn and grow this year!
