Tuesday Combo Dancers
As dancers get a little older, dancers will get placed in either our Combo 5 or Combo 6 classes. Typically, these dancers are ranging between 6 and 8 years old and their classes will meet on Tuesdays. . Dancers in this combo classes might be entering their first experience with dance, or have completed creative movement classes as well as Monday Combo classes with TDA and are ready for the next level. As a combo dancer in one of these classes, some additional class style options become available! Dancers may choose to add Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical, and or Technique to their schedule; however ballet and jazz are two required classes for these dancers.
Combo 5-6 Class Times & Options (2024-25)
As dancers continue throughout our combo program, dancers will get opportunities in different styles with multiple routines to be presented in our end of year recital. These classes will focus on expanding dancer knowledge on dance skills to spark a passion and commitment to dance as a extra curricular activity. As some of these dancers will be in their first group learning setting, dancers will be introduced to beginning classroom/studio expectations and will expand on those throughout the dance season. Dancers will be split up between Combo 5 or 6 based on their dance experience and skill level for what will benefit each dancer individually. Ballet and Jazz are required for this age group, and they will have at least two dances in the recital. One of these two dances will also be selected to compete at one local competition. If dancers choose to add on additional styles, they will have additional dances performed for those routines. You can see those class options listed below as well.
At this stage, the goal is to make dance fun and engaging while laying a solid foundation for future learning during their time here at TDA. Here are some key skills students will focus on in these classes to help grow as dancers and have a positive experience:
- Basic Motor Skills: Emphasize coordination, balance, and spatial awareness. Simple exercises that involve hopping, skipping, and jumping help with these skills.
- Fun and Creativity: Incorporate games and activities that allow dancers to express themselves. Letting them make up their own dances or movements encourages imagination and self-expression.
- Basic Dance Techniques: Introduce and expand on foundational steps and techniques in a playful way. For ballet, this might include learning basic positions and movements; for jazz or tap, simple steps and rhythms.
- Rhythm and Music: Teach children to recognize and move to different rhythms and beats.
- Body Awareness: Help them understand different parts of their bodies and how to use them in dance. This includes learning how to stretch and move safely.
- Social Skills: Encourage teamwork, sharing, and taking turns.
- Following Instructions: Practice listening and following directions to support discipline and understanding how to execute dance movements correctly.
- Building Confidence: Lots of positive reinforcements before, during, and after classes to build self-esteem and confidence.
Additional Events & Performances for all Tuesday Combo Dancers:
- Recreational Competition – When dancers are in Combo, they will be entered into their first competition. Here at TDA, we take pride in taking our recreational dancers to one competition and allowing them to get a taste of what that part of the dance world looks like. Dates and details for this event will be shared throughout the season, and there is one time additional fee that will be processed.
- Observation Days – On certain days throughout the year, teachers may invite parents to watch at the end of class. Additionally, there is an open window and or door for parents to view at all times. Additionally, all dancers and parents have access to our google drive folder that houses videos from class each week as well.

Its a fun evening of spooky fun, and a right of passage for all TDA Dancers! The dates for these performances and additional information will be sent throughout the year.
