Wednesday Combo Dancers

Dancers age ranging between 7-9 will be placed in either our Combo 7 or Combo 8 classes, meeting on Wednesdays. Dancers in this combo classes might be entering their first experience with dance, or have completed previous seasons with TDA/other dance experiences and be placed in one of the two separate classes. Dancers may choose to add Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical, and or Technique to their schedule with ballet and jazz as their two required classes for these dancers.

Combo 7-8 Class Times & Options (2024-25)

As dancers continue throughout our combo program, dancers will get opportunities in different styles with multiple routines to be presented in our end of year recital. These classes will focus on expanding dancer knowledge on dance skills to spark a passion and commitment to dance as a extra curricular activity. This class will take either their ballet or jazz class to compete at one local competition. If dancers choose to add on additional styles, they will have additional dances performed for those routines at the end of year recital. You can see those class options listed below as well.

At this stage, the goal is to make dance fun and engaging while laying a solid foundation for future learning during their time here at TDA. Dancers at this age often start showing interest in wanting to take dance more seriously and could potentially do so, by auditioning for our competitive team. Overall, balancing technique with creativity and enjoyment will help them grow as dancers and stay motivated is what is the driving force with age group. Here are some key skills students will focus on in Wednesday Combo Classes to help grow as dancers and have a positive experience:

  1. Basic Technique: Teachers will emphasize the foundational techniques of their chosen dance style(s) incorporating them into their routines for the end of season, as well as working with each student on feedback given throughout the season in weekly skills check ins.
  2. Coordination and Rhythm: Work on developing coordination, balance, and an understanding of rhythm.
  3. Flexibility: Gentle stretching and flexibility exercises are important for all dancers to support their bodies in executing more difficult skills properly.
  4. Strength and Endurance: Age-appropriate strength-building exercises and stamina-building activities will be introduced in this age group. Dancers will work through simple core exercises and activities that promote overall body strength and endurance.
  5. Creative Expression: Allow time for creative movement and improvisation as dancers are encouraged to express themselves and explore their individuality through dance.
  6. Basic Dance Vocabulary: Dancers should become comfortable using terminology in class, as understanding the names of steps and positions is crucial for their progress and communication in class.
  7. Performance Skills: Introduce basic performance skills like stage presence and how to convey emotions through dance.
  8. Teamwork and Social Skills: Teamwork and collaboration are always encouraged, especially if they’re in group classes or performances. Learning to work with others and share the spotlight is an important aspect of dance.
  9. Fun and Enjoyment: Dance classes in the recreation levels for all ages will still be centered in have fun and enjoying their classes. The joy of dancing is a big motivator and helps maintain their interest and enthusiasm.
